[Love Poetry] Untethered, a polyamory love poem by Kamala Devi

For my beloved, Michael

The damn of us is broken
the riverbanks have flooded
and there’s nowhere to go,
but downstream.

This is not a map
a myth or even a metaphor,
This is real and it’s here,
and it’s happening now.

Our bond is bigger than
any barricade that is made
or imagined or even busted.
Our ties run deeper than
water, blood or bodily fluids.

It may feel like something,
a memory, a warning
or even a story we read,
but we are not like
anything except

This is me,
and that is you.
And we are so much
more than two.

We are not a couple, a pair,
or anyone’s better half, anymore.
We are free, and we are here
and this is happening now.

There is no law,
handbook or even a ritual
to tell us how to be.
The course of our vows
may be unknown,
but the current of
our love is constant.

So, this is you,
showing up for me as
we are, happening now.

Untethered in the mystery,
this one thing is known:
Who we are and will become,
can not be contained.

The Photo above was taken 10 years ago, around Solstice 2004.
